Founded in 2021, Katharina Lou began as a one-woman show, operating as a made-to-order label. Katharina herself handled every aspect of the process, from pattern making, cutting, and sewing to packing and posting each order. Over time, we have grown and now produce small batches of our products in both Australia and Bali.
At the heart of our brand is you.

Our founder Katharina grew up in Sydney, Australia, and the brand has grown from these roots, deeply inspired by her upbringing with endless days of sunshine, surrounded by love, and a confident spirit. As someone who always strived to be the loudest dressed in the room, her love for striking colors and dynamic patterns translates into our collections, offering a true expression of individuality and exploration of fun in fashion.

we cant claim to be completely sustainable. However, we are dedicated to practicing in the most environmentally and ethically responsible ways possible. By being 100% transparent about our processes, we aim to remain accountable and continually strive to improve.
All packaging sent from us to you is either 100% compostable or 100% recycled paper.
Our overseas manufacturers use 100% plant based and biodegradable garment bags to transport to us.
Manufacturing in Sydney also allows us to use minimal to no packaging when transporting these products - driven straight to the studio where we pack our orders.
Deadstock fabrics are unused or leftover textiles from garment factories, mills, or other manufacturers. We choose to use these fabrics for a few reasons;
♡ it helps reduce textile waste by repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills
♡ minimizes the environmental impact of producing new fabrics
♡ Allows us to use high-quality, unique materials and create limited-edition collections that stand out
Aiming for a circular fashion industry is crucial for environmental sustainability.
In a circular fashion system, garments are designed for longevity, reuse, and recyclability, minimizing waste and reducing the need for new resources; which will always be something at the forefront our of design process.
♡ Using old fabrics; our use of deadstock fabric means we are bringing to life old materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
♡ Quality & Repairs; We design our pieces to last so they are crafted with the highest quality, we encourage repairs for any clothing you purchase to extend the lifetime of all pieces. We want our dresses passed down generations.
♡ Resale; We encourage the resale of KLOU if the piece no longer serves you. We recommend depop, vinted or hosting a stall at your favourite markets.
We want every piece to go to a home where it is loved and never want to over produce- something that is so common in the fashion industry. This is also why we so rarely go on sale.
We are dedicated to maintaining exclusivity and sustainability in our fashion offerings. By creating only a small number of pieces in each drop, we ensure that every garment finds a home.
Our careful production planning ensures that each piece is crafted with the highest attention to detail and quality, reflecting our commitment to responsible fashion. By limiting our production runs, we can focus on creating truly special and sought-after garments.
Over the years we have donated all our textile waste to a company named Upparel. This is a recycling service that we choose to pay for, to ensure our waste is being given a new life. Working with Upparel has allowed Katharina Lou to give new life to over 180kg of textile waste.
